A Peugeot 207cc GT Users Personal Long Term Road Test

How good and how reliable has it been?

Peugeot 207cc GT 1.6 120 bhpWe bought a Silver ('Aluminium') 207cc GT new from Richard Hardie, Ashington on 21st February 2008 and with the experience gained running a Citroen C4 and compiling a long term Road Test over at C4owners.org link felt it worthwhile compiling this personal, road test report, for others who may be considering buying a Peugeot 207cc and those who have recently acquired one who are wondering what the running costs and other issues owning a 207cc may be.

Why a Petrol and why the 1.6 120bhp? Simply because the car is a second car for my wife which is going to be doing circa 6,000 miles per year. The petrol variants didn't have such good mileage figures but the additional cost of the HDi was not something that we could really justify (even though my other road test shows it's a great engine link ).

As the car has two colour leather interior it was love at first sight for her! never mind the wonderful folding roof.

As the dealer had a stock car with Rear Parking Sensors, Cruise Control already fitted I managed to get a good discount on these 'extras' as well as convincing them to fit the USB BOX link The car also had 'Supagard' paint protection (basically a long life polish)

So far I have removed the rear badges, fitted a short aerial, installed a 'wind stop' behind the front seats (part no: 9621.H2)and added chrome number plate holders and a rear exhaust surround Bezel (Part no: VAC 951) to 'personalise the car without going over the top

24th February 2008 - had the tyres treated with 'Ultraseal' to hopefully stop a puncture happening. It cost £50.00 to have all 4 wheels treated.

Why have Ultraseal fitted when the car has a 'space saver' spare? Well I had a puncture once on a fast dual carriageway with no where safe to pull over. By the time I had found somewhere running the flat tyre meant it was beyond repair at a cost of £120.00 plus the space-saver is a pain to get at with the roof down

8th March 2008 Just back from a few days in York and the car is averaging 30.37 mpg over the first 510 miles. Hopefully that will improve as the engine beds in around the 2-3,000 mile mark

1st June 208 well due to a change in circumstances the car is being used a lot less than anticipated as it has only just covered 1,000 miles. Most of that with the top down though!

You do get buffeted with the roof and windows down, but run the sides up and it's fine, even at motorway speeds. You can still hear the radio clearly and the USB box and iPod work beautifully on 'shuffle'. It's quite an experience the first time you have the roof down and hear the birds signing above you. Just a pity we don't get enough warm days to take maximum advantage of the 207cc

The engine is starting to loosen up now as well and handling on country roads is brilliant.

5th July 2008 still only 1,340 miles on the speedo and an ESP Fault has suddenly appeared. Now it's probably only a wheel sensor causing a glitch but the car is booked in for Monday morning to get it checked out - more to follow

7th July 2008 After a diagnostic check they confirmed that it wasn't a 'sensor' after all but a problem with the main ABS/ESP block and declared the car 'unsafe' to drive until they ordered parts and fitted them

Now Citroen had a major re-call on the C4 for potential problems with the ABS / ESP unit due to potential water ingress and I would have thought that by the build date of the 207 it would have all been sorted with a modified unit, but apparently not

It could be just a simple failure and not related though.

However the good part is that the Peugeot dealer, Richard Hardie in Ashington, had no hesitation supplying a courtesy car, an almost new 207. No questions, no payment, no insurance questions or driving licence checks so top marks to them

Just have to wait for the parts now.

10th July 2008 OK got a phone call today and the car is back, all repaired and 'as good as new'

Well not quite as some 'pillock' used a jet wash to clean the dirt off and it's now covered in white water marks which it didn't have when it wet in so now I have to wash and clean the car once again

Why oh why do dealers do that.

Well the car has finally passed the 3,000 mile mark following a trip to London last week. The engine is starting to loosen up but still requires use of the gearbox to get the best out of it.

Over a 600 mile round trip we managed to get an average 35.8 mpg @ 69 mph which isn't that bad considering we didn't hang about much. The roads, Sunday night especially were quiet coming North so the road works on the A1 from Peterborough and up to Doncaster weren't an issue but the roof was up all the way due to the weather.

It was much nicer this weekend and had a run out with the roof down on Sunday on a nice sunny day. That's what the car is for, not long motorway runs. Get it on a winding country road with the roof down, the engine 'singing' at 4,000+ rpm and it really is a pleasure to drive

21st February 2009 A year old but still only 4,057 miles on the clock.

Rather less than we were expecting mileage wise so not a great deal to report I'm afraid. I have added some 'bling' though in the form of Chrome Trims to the rear Tail lights and door handle covers and will post a few pictures when I get a decent day to take them,

The rear parking sensors sometimes give off a spurious earning so will get them checked out at some stage, but they work and it's not urgent.

Just waiting for some half decent weather to get the roof down again!!

19th April 2009 Well the weather has finally changed and we had the roof down today, 'Brilliant' and the 'windstop' really works well link

I have added a bit of 'Chrome' trim over the last few weeks. Headlight surround, door mirrors, door handles and tail lights! - there are some images in the gallery link

All the chrome is held on by double sided tape and really does set the car apart from all the others out there

5th January 2010 It's a long time since I updated this however nothing much has happened.

We had some glorious days out over the summer, then I was made redundant and took the decision to 'retire' and have never been busier!!

The car has been parked up in our garage for nearly 3 weeks now and looking at the weather forecast, will be staying there a while longer. Decided I had better start it up and warm the engine through today and it fired up first time.

The car will be 2 years old in February and although the mileage is low.......... will be getting it serviced by Peugeot to maintain the warranty and have any software updates done.

How it handles though, in all the snow and ice, I have no intention of finding out. I traded the Citroen C4 for a Citroen C6 and much prefer that in the bad weather with all that metal around

18th February 2010 (Thursday) Well the car went into the dealers this morning for the 2 year (1st) service. I was reluctant to take it to a main dealer as they are charging £219.99 for it, but there is an issue with the reversing sensors which seem to have a mind of their own so the car had to go to them under warranty for it to be checked out.

They tried twice to get me to have the air conditioning recharged (they recommend it's done every 2 years) for a mere £99.99

I rather impolitely declined there ridiculous offer as my local Citroen garage do it for £30.00. You really do have to wonder where they get some of their pricing from and who is gullible enough to pay for it.

The selling pitch?

It will improve m.p.g. by up to 20% (from an air con recharge) Now as the car has only covered 6,000 miles from new in 2 years. I'll let you do the math on whether the cost would be recouped or not

The bad news is that they called at 4.00 p.m to confirm that there does appear to be a fault with the sensors and they need the car for 2 days to strip the sensor system, order parts etc. so won't get the car back until Tuesday.

24th February 2010 Well finally got the car back today as they had to strip the parking system out:

So rear parking sensors are now fixed - it was a faulty sensor on the bumper - done under warranty.

The seat belt warning light is now fixed as well, they had to replace the rear drivers side seat belt fastening stalk as the internal switch was faulty - done under warranty.

Now the nasty bit, the service cost £220.00 including parts and labour.

You can now:
Updated 24th February 2010 - I will update again as and when things change
