The latest version of the RD4 RT3 & RT4 head units have MP3 playing capability from a single Cd, but what if that isn't enough for you?

The latest way is to buy a USB BOX 9702.EZ from Peugeot

Press Release

Peugeot is presenting the USB Box, a device for connecting portable digital music players to Peugeot and Citroën audio systems, at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. An essential accessory, the USB Box will be launched from December.

The USB Box makes it possible to hook up a USB key, an MP3 player, an iPod or any other portable music player equipped with a jack plug to the latest-generation Peugeot audio systems (RD4).

For enhanced ergonomics and user friendliness, music files are controlled using the original auto-radio instruments on the steering wheel or via the car’s central console.

Menus, song lists and titles stored on the portable music device are clearly displayed on the vehicle’s multi-function screen.

The USB Box increases the safety of the driver, who can play and control his music without taking his eyes off the road (steering wheel controls, no CD handling and no headphones).

Passengers get all the sound quality of the original audio system. And while they listen, their portable music device recharges.

The USB Box is housed in the glove box, a discrete location that reduces theft.

The accessory will be available from December 2007 on the 1007, 207, 207, 307, 308 and Citroen C2, C3, C3 Pluriel, C4, C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, and from March 2008 on the C5, C6, C8.

UK Dealer Price and availability

£126.05 +Vat = £148.11

New iPod interface for the Citroen RD4 Head Unit

The USB BOX 9702.EZ adds USB support allowing file names and info to be displayed on main screen when using the iPod.

Also allows charging and full control of the iPod from the head unit you can change the track on the iPod via the steering controls.

Can see this possibly becoming quite popular with the iPod crowd

The fitting guide is available here to download http://www.207cc.org/
download.php?view.1

The user guide is also available to download here http://www.207cc.org/
download.php?view.2

Another, older, cheaper way, is to go to a Peugeot dealer and ask for the 9706.AG cable

This utilises a spare input/output socket on the rear of the radio head unit (unless your car is fully loaded with Manufacturer CD Multi-changer and in car Telephone Kit) leaving no empty access socket on the rear of the radio

Simply plug the cable into the radio and the other end into your iPod / MP3 player headphone socket and switch on.

Only for Citroen RD4 - Ipod/MP3 Lead/Auxiliary input. It's actually a Kit of parts not just a simple lead. Includes connector block, 1 metre radio cable, 2.25 metre extension lead, cable bracket, clips and wiring diagram.

Please Note: The radio has to be configured by your dealer to turn the Auxiliary input on, either 1 or 2 and there may be a charge for that.

They do this by changing a setting in the RD4 unit to Classic Mode (conventional). However the computer software may also need updating first to allow the enabling of either/both ports to classic mode.

The lead comes as a 'Kit' so you can choose how to wire it dependant on which Aux port you use but doesn't take long to assemble if you look at the image below which I colour coded to make it easier (the one supplied is black and white) If the lead doesn't work make sure the connector is wired as follows:

Using Auxiliary 2 its: 7-RED 1- WHITE 2 BLACK

Using Auxiliary 1 its: 4-RED 10-WHITE 11-BLACK

There is a confirmed 3rd option if either of the above don't work then Peugeot Service Support (and the manual) say wire it as: 11-Black 10- Red 4-White - confused - you should be!

You can't use a Mobile Phone on AUX 1 but can on AUX 2 - my Factory Fit CD Multi-changers player is Slot 1 already (which I think is the standard outlet for that as if you have Factory Fit Rear Parking Sensors it mutes the Radio/CD if your in reverse when the proximity 'Beep' kicks in)

As long as 1 of the ports are free and there is no other Auxiliary equipment then the Dealer will probably enable Auxiliary 1

It takes around 15 minutes to fit the cable (unless the Dealer does it for you) and you will require a set of Radio removal tools (but you can get these at most auto shops) however I have used the stem of 'Pop Rivets' successfully before!

The radio output cable from the Aux port is 1 metre long and terminates in a 3.5mm FEMALE audio plug. The 2nd cable is a male to male 2.25 metre long extension so you can basically put your iPod/MP3 player anywhere within reach. The instructions show it as a glove box fitting but you don't need to put it there if you don't want to. Just find a convenient compartment near at hand (you'll have more if you have the centre armrest fitted) or you might want to get a 'cradle' that fits your particular model and add a charging lead.

When connected and you use the 'Source Button' on the Radio you will find it now has another option:

The Sound quality is good as it's a direct feed into the Radio, You can still control the volume from the steering hub controls, you can mute the sound (but it doesn't pause the player like it does with the CD) Reverse Parking Sensors if fitted will still work and mute the sound when the proximity detector activates and Traffic Announcements will also work (if turned on on the radio)

Downsides: no power supply for your iPod /MP3 so a separate in car charger may be required plus you need to have an iPod on a high volume level (don't know about any other makes) which uses the battery faster. You may be able to adjust the output from Headphone to Line-out to offset that but that depends on individual players

You cannot adjust the Bass/Treble settings for the output either like you can for the Radio/Cd Multi-changer but with good quality recordings it doesn't really matter anyway. Plus iPod and some other MP3 players often come with integral Bass/Treble Controls and often 'Equaliser' settings to set the mode to 'Rock' (mine) Pop, Classic, Voice, Small Speakers, Concert Hall etc. etc. which overcomes some of those issues anyway.

You may want to add the 'input' socket currently supplied with the cable to somewhere easily accessible.

The big question everyone asks is what is the PCD and offset for fitting aftermarket wheels to a 207cc?

OK for those who don't know, the PCD is the 'Pitch Circle Diameter' of the wheel holding bolts.

On the 207cc it's 4 X 108

Now it gets a bit more complicated as the 'Offset' varies according to what size wheels:

The 'Sport' comes fitted with 16" 6.5 J alloys with a 27mm offset (16" is the diameter and 6.5 J the width and the offset gives the clearance from the inner wheel arch) and have 195 X 55 tyres fitted

The GT however has 17" 6.6J alloys with 205 X 45 and have 205 X 45 tyres fitted

Basically that gives the same running diameter so the speedo remains true

You might want to consider going up to 18" wheels but they would ideally have to be 7.5J with a 25mm offset fitted with 215 X 35 tyres - they are lower profile again that the GT so the ride might be harsh

There is a nifty Tyre Size Differential Calculator available here so you can compare for your self http://www.alloywheels.com/
TyreCalc.asp

Did you know that the 'space-saver' wheel in the 207cc is only rated to 80 kph (55 mph) and is only a Temporary get you home fix?

Can you imagine if you had the roof down and the remaining storage full of luggage how much hassle it would be to dig out the spare and actually fit it?

There is an answer and it's called 'Ultraseal' - you can read more here http://
www.ultrasealnorth.co.uk/
index.htm

NO PUNCTURES, NO EXCESSIVE TYRE WEAR.

Ultraseal will permanently repair punctures caused by puncturing objects up to 6mm

The repair is guaranteed for the life of the tyre

Speed tested up to 156mph

Tested for stability up to 100,000 miles

Helps extend tyre life by as much as 40%

Compatible with all tyre safety bands

Conditions and makes the tyres supple, thereby helping reduce sidewall age cracking

Anyone who has had a high speed blow-out, knows what a terrifying and dangerous experience it is.

It can happen without warning, making your car, motorcycle or caravan/trailer impossible to handle and putting you and your passengers in extreme danger. Slow punctures are a major cause of blowouts and are usually very difficult to detect.

Installing Ultraseal in your tyres helps to ensure that you will not be placed in a potentially life threatening situation.

A puncture is not only costly and inconvenient, but also dangerous.

Ultraseal prevents punctures by repairing them immediately as they happen, and creates a permanent repair for the legal lifetime of the tyre.

Why did I consider Ultraseal well I had a puncture on a very busy dual carriageway in my C4 and had no choice to drive to the next lay by as it was simply too dangerous to pull over and try and fit the space-saver spare.

By the time I reached the lay by, the tyre was damaged beyond repair (£cost £138.00 to buy a new Michelin Exalto ) so was considering Ultraseal for a while and as the 207 was brand new thought it would be a great option for it, so had the car done today at home - 4 205 X 45 X 17 wheels - 14 units of Ultraseal a tyre at a total cost of £50.00 - it took 40 minutes and the tyres are only semi deflated

A ruined 205 X 45 X 17 'Continental' as fitted to the GT version of the 207cc will cost from £123.00 fitted (did a quick quote at Blackcircles http://www.blackcircles.com/
public/order?view=standard ) so Ultraseal is very good value for money if it saves buying a tyre and a puncture repair costs £8.00 upward s at £12.50 per tyre there was 'no contest'

If you buy a 'kit' and do it yourself then you have to deflate the tyres completely and it's a bit of a hassle apparently so best to get it done by an installer

Now, Ultraseal are apparently re branding to 'Tyre Safe' which is why the main web site is down so it's hard to find a local Franchisee.

UK coverage is not complete apparently either so there are some 'franchises' available

To find out your nearest installer call Ultraseal UK on 0870 241 3730 (they will try and sell a DIY kit, just politely refuse and ask again for the nearest installer)

On Friday the ESP warning came on and stayed on every time the engine was started so took it down to the dealer Saturday AM they had no one to help but booked the car in for this morning at 08.30 a.m.

After a diagnostic check they confirmed that it wasn't a 'sensor' after all but a problem with the main ABS/ESP block and declared the car 'unsafe' to drive until they ordered parts and fitted them

Now Citroen had a major re-call on the C4 for potential problems with the ABS / ESP unit due to potential water ingress and I would have thought that by the build date of the 207 it would have all been sorted with a modified unit, but apparently not

It could be just a simple failure and not related though.

However the good part is that the Peugeot dealer, Richard Hardie in Ashington, had no hesitation supplying a courtesy car, an almost new 207. No questions, no payment, no insurance questions or driving licence checks so top marks to them

Just have to wait for the parts now.

Anyone else suffered a similar failure with their 207cc?

Remarkably, July was our 3rd best month EVER in terms of business!

Considering we have been going 26 years, that is great news especially in these days of the Credit Crunch.

The reason for this is due to the fact that users of this and other forums are insuring their cars with us, simple as that!

Therefore I'd like to thank all who have rung us & would encourage everyone to ring us anytime up to 14 days before their renewal date.
It's a freephone number so it won't cost you anything to call (though if calling by mobile, it may be better to call on 01580 752961).

You must have at least 1 year's NCB (unless you have NCB on a second car or a company car letter to state at least 1 year's claim free driving), and all drivers must have held a full UK licence for at least 1 year, and to insure a 'performance' car, there must be at least 1 years experience of driving that, or similar performance cars. Unfortunately, the scheme is not competitive on all M - Manchester, L - Liverpool, OL - Oldham & SK1-12 - Stockport postcodes and excludes Northern Ireland.

It's imperative you quote the Club name & reference number found either in my signature or my introductory post as the community of forum users is better statistically claims-wise than non-forum users – hence the reason why the premiums can be so much cheaper.

As previously mentioned, our average recorded saving for our new customers has been £60.02 in 2009 but of course many of them have seen bigger savings! (I read on one forum only this morning that we had saved one guy £200 off his BEST quote elsewhere!).

What have you got to lose?!

I can't help but thinking how can we upgrade the WIP NAV firmware... there must be a way of adding some functionality, right?... at least there's a bunch of forums out there for the old RT4 navigation systems.

With this version (RNEG_D_R20TER_R20.07) I can't even set my HOME destination on the nav menu...

cheers!

Hi

A tip off!!!

The 'word on the street' is that premiums are 'hardening' meaning that they are going up.

HOWEVER.................

I was in the office yesterday & the New Business Manager told me that due to the success of our insurance scheme this year, the set targets each month have been upped by 25% remarkably! This started on 1/10/09.

Even though we have had a good month already, on reckoning it could be that we are just under the set target so he told me that premiums will be even cheaper for people who have renewal dates from now until 31/10/09 just so that these targets can be met!!!

The difficulty is that from now until February, there aren't as many people insuring cars.

My thought is that, because of these quieter months, the premiums will continue to be cheaper for those who have renewal dates for now, November, December, January & early February.

All I'd say is it's worth a call ESPECIALLY if your renewal date is within these months.

(My long-term thought is that if the insurers show a decent profit due to increased business but at lower premiums, then this will continue throughout next year but that is only me surmising!).

Hi all,

I am considering buying a 207 CC. The salesman at the Peugeot dealership told me that it was essential to hold down the switch that operates the roof mechanism until it had fully completed the opening/closing cycle as, if you don't, after a couple of times the mechanism will get stuck and will need to be returned to the dealership to have it reset. This struck me as highly unlikely, and there is no mention of this in the owners' manuals. I wonder if he was getting confused with the fact that, if the engine is off, according the the manual it will only operate twice to avoid running the battery down.

Any experiences from actual owners?

Many thanks,

Fred

I've just bought a new 1.6 VTI 207 cc and would appreciate any comment on fuel performance / preference. My old 206 cc 2.0 always performed best on 98 octane fuel, but my local garage assures me that the 1.6 VTI should be used with 95. Any opinions out there? [No need for a general discussion of 95 v. 98, or petrol companies rip-off tactics please!]

Well the car went into the dealers this morning for the 2 year (1st) service. I was reluctant to take it to a main dealer as they are charging £219.99 for it, but there is an issue with the reversing sensors which seem to have a mind of their own so the car had to go to them under warranty for it to be checked out.

They tried twice to get me to have the air conditioning recharged (they recommend it's done every 2 years) for a mere £99.99

I rather impolitely declined there ridiculous offer as my local Citroen garage do it for £30.00. You really do have to wonder where they get some of their pricing from and who is gullible enough to pay for it.

The selling pitch?

It will improve m.p.g. by up to 20% (from an air con recharge) Now as the car has only covered 6,000 miles from new in 2 years. I'll let you do the math on whether the cost would be recouped or not

Hi, has anyone any engine problems. I have my 207 cc 1.6 120bhp since 30th March of 2007, on Thursday 15th April (2 weeks out of warranty), the engine started to make a huge banging noise. I called breakdown, they took it to the Peugot garage, who are saying the engine has 'went'. Does anyone have any similar stories, they need to diagnose the problem, and then they will let me know the issue. I have done 24K miles. It doesn't seem right and to be honest, I am so surprised and shocked.

Had a noticeable squeak/chirping noise when the engine idled and slowed from revs. Turns out to be the tensioner rod that needs replacing. This tensioner takes up the slack on the drive belt. The dealership originally thought it was the water pump pulley and the 'on demand' water pump friction unit (both of which they have already replaced including the drive belt by them). So by the end of the week I'll have all these parts replaced. Keep ya posted...
